My colleague Cllr Cian O’Callaghan put a question down at the November County Council meeting regarding street cleaning in Fingal.
In response the Council advised that more than 1,300 litter bins are located throughout Fingal. Street cleaning crews empty and maintain these bins and carry out litter picking and road sweeping. Extended street cleaning schedules are in place in and around the towns of Balbriggan, Skerries, Swords, Blanchardstown, Mulhuddart, Malahide and Howth.
The following resources are deployed by the Council in street cleaning services :
- Vehicles 28
- Staff 48
The cost for street cleaning for 2015 is €5,957,000, including wages and salaries. Fingal has countywide programmes for road sweeping, litter picking and
emptying of bins which aim to ensure a good coverage of the County and focus on areas needing greater attention. In particular, factors such as leaves etc. take
priority at certain times of the year to prevent water pooling or floods. In addition to the street sweeping schedule the Council responds to requests for street cleaning and litter picking from citizens and public representatives as they arise, subject to budgetary constraints and availability of resources. As new
estates are taken in charge, they are added to the schedule.
These schedules are monitored on an ongoing basis.
